Alpha

Purpose:

The Alpha course is designed for those who want to know more about the Christian faith. Alpha is a relaxed, relationship-based low key approach to learning about the Christian faith. Alpha can also be helpful for Christians by (re)learning the basics and providing the opportunity to share their faith with a friend.

What's involved?

The Alpha course is a 11 week practical introduction to the Christian faith, utilising a video tape series presented by Nicky Gumbel.

Each week at Alpha you are invited to share an evening meal, view one of the 15 teaching videos and then participate in a small group for a discussion time around the theme of the teaching for that night. It's all very relaxed, friendly and non-threatening.

Each week's teaching video focuses on a subject central to the Christian faith, including:

Christianity - boring, untrue or irrelevant? Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus die? How can I be sure of my faith? Why and how do I read my Bible? Why and how do I pray? How does God guide us? Who is the Holy Spirit? What does the Holy Spirit do? How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit? How can I make the most out of the rest of my life? How can I resist evil? Why and how should I tell others? Does God heal today? What about the Church?

The Alpha course also includes a weekend camp. When you come to Alpha you will be made to feel very welcome and, hopefully comfortable to participate by a caring team of volunteers.

What will it cost?

There is no charge for the Alpha course, although you may be asked to make a contribution towards catering.

When is it on?

Diamond Valley Baptist Church currently runs the Alpha course each year. Please contact the Church Office for the dates of the next course.
